Egypt Travel: Basics You Need to Consider

When most people think about Egypt, they think of ancient sites, architecture, and antiquities, but Egypt offers much more than just that. Egypt also offers nature and desert treks (and rides), safaris, great scuba diving, watersports, resorts, and even golf, fishing and birding expeditions. One may choose to relax on the wondrous Egypt Red Sea or Sinai coasts (including the gorgeous Sharm Egypt), take in the high culture of Cairo, or even leisurely float down the Egyptian Nile on a luxurious river boat.

There are Egypt packages that combine history and culture in a way that makes history come alive and gives the traveler a sense of excitement like no where else. AND most are guaranteed to operate even if there are only two travelers! Egypt tours today are easy, rewarding and safe.

Egypt suffered a series of deadly terrorist attacks in or near tourist sites in 2004, 2005, and 2006 – often coinciding with major local holidays. Prior to the October 2004 attack, there had been no terrorist incidents involving tourists in Egypt since the mid 1990s.

Americans should be especially vigilant in crowded tourist areas in the Sinai, practice good personal security measures, and be alert to their surroundings. A heavy security presence is apparent to travelers throughout the country, which you should find comforting. On the whole, Americans are unlikely to experience any crime other than simple theft, and Egyptians are generally very accommodating and polite. Americans are encouraged to visit the U.S. Embassy in Cairo web site for the most up-to-date security information.

Egypt is largely a desert, an extension of the great Sahara Desert that bands North Africa. Save for the thin strip of watered land along the river Nile, very little could survive here. As the ancient Greek philosopher Herodotus stated: "Egypt is the gift of the Nile".

Travelers seeking to cross the Egyptian-Gaza border at Rafah are likely to encounter difficulty. The border is frequently closed and re-openings are announced on short notice. Travelers wishing to cross this border should contact the American Consulate General in Jerusalem for more information on the current status of the border crossing. Travelers should also refer to the Israel, West Bank and Gaza Travel Warning before traveling to Gaza.

Egypt holidays are fast becoming popular as people begin to appreciate the rich diversity that Egypt offers, coupled with over five thousand years of history and some incredible sights and sounds. For example, stay in a superb holiday resort situated along the coast of the red sea, or take in the beauty of the clear waters of the River Nile from your room in Hurghada or while on holiday in Sharm el Sheikh.

Egypt is the land of the Pharaohs, and offers friendly people and incredible sights, including the temples, Pyramids and monuments that you have always been dying to see. You can find many great activities in Egypt in addition to simply scoping out the historical sights, so consider taking scuba lessons or squeezing eighteen holes of golf in between trips to the pyramids or the Nile River. Beautiful Egypt really does have something for absolutely every one, making Egypt holidays increasingly popular through the years.
